Foundation to hold ‘Touch-a-Truck’ fundraising event

Updated: Apr 10

After hosting a successful Gala and providing more than $30,000 in grants to Isle of Wight County Public Schools this year, the Education Foundation for Isle of Wight County Public Schools is holding a spring fundraising event.

The foundation presents its inaugural Touch-A-Truck event in the Smithfield High School parking lot on Saturday, April 25 from 9 am to 1 pm.

Tickets are $5 per person ages three and up, and the event will give kids of all ages the ability to get up close with a variety of trucks, and other vehicles ranging from farm equipment, emergency vehicles and other kid favorites, including a hot air balloon.

The final hour will feature a horn free, “silent” hour for children with special needs to be able to enjoy the event as well.

“Our biggest fundraiser has always been our gala in the fall, but we have been looking for other opportunities to raise money for our local teachers through a family friendly event, and this Touch-A-Truck event does just that,” said Patrick Bloodgood, Education Foundation vice president. “Each year we find ourselves only being able to fund a portion of the grant applications we get from county teachers; this event will help us fulfill our motto of ‘supporting public schools, one classroom at a time’ and fund some of the additional requests we receive.”

Tickets are available online through the foundation’s website at www.iowfoundation.org, or can be purchased at the gate. The event is rain or shine, and tickets will not be refunded.

The Education Foundation for Isle of Wight County Public Schools is a 501C3 non-profit organization run by an all-volunteer board of directors. The main mission is to secure and provide additional financial resources that will support and enhance an exemplary educational experience for all students in Isle of Wight County Public Schools.

The Foundation can be reached via e-mail at contact@iowfoundation.org.
