SMITHFIELD, Va. -- The Education Foundation for Isle of Wight County Public Schools is awarding $25,130 in grants to county teachers this year.

The grants, which goes beyond normally funded items by the school division, pay for educational items and equipment teachers utilize to make learning interactive and fun for public school students.

“This year the grant requests were wide-ranging and should bring a lot of interesting and innovative learning experiences to our school system,” said Amy Britt, Foundation president.

The Foundation received 57 grant requests from area educators totaling more than $76,000 this year, 28 of which received funding throughout the school division.

Each year the Education Foundation for Isle of Wight County Public Schools raises money through both online giving at www.iowfoundation.org and at its annual gala held at the Smithfield Center each October.

A full breakdown of grants, and photos of the grants in use, will be provided on the Foundation’s website as they become available.
